WICKFORD TOWN CARNIVAL

INTERESTED IN JOINING OUR COURT?

The search is on for our 2023/24 Wickford Town Carnival Court. The selection of the court will either be way of an informal interview or selection panel interview, dependant on the number of people coming forward.

The crowning of the new court will take place at the Wick Community centre on the 4th March 2023. The chosen court will spend the year representing Wickford by visiting other town’s carnivals around Essex and surrounding areas and supporting local Wickford events. During the year you will help raise carnival funds, lead the Wickford Carnival procession, attend other carnivals and their carnival court’s evening dances/selections.

The aim is to have as much fun as possible and provide an opportunity for the young people of our town.

At carnivals, there are competitions where the court is judged on route. The aim is to have fun and engage with the crowd. Smiling and waving to everyone.

Dresses, T shirts, Sashes and crowns are provided.

Carnivals around Essex hold either a selection dance or crowning evening. A selection dance is where the court applicants are interviewed during the evening and the new court is then announced. Some carnivals just have dances where the court has already been selected and they are then crowned on that evening.

When attending Selection evenings/dances there are competitions held. Court of courts, Queen of Queens and Princess competitions. Court of courts is where each carnival court introduces themselves individually and then performs a curtesy. This is the same for Queen of Queen’s and princess.

After each carnival (unless advised) there is a queen’s tea where each court attends and food is provided.
